Strategies to Beat Back Colds & Flus
Have you noticed more and more people getting sick the last little while? Or maybe you've been sick yourself.
Either way I've got you covered. Below is a protocol from my friend Esther at Prescription Health Studio. You'll find here contact info at the bottom of this post.
The reason this all came about was that Esther and I were supposed to have a meeting a couple of weeks ago and I had to cancel as I felt I was coming down with something.
You know what I mean?
You are more fatigued than usual. Your workouts feel harder than they normally do. And you feel the tickle in the back of your throat when you wake up in morning. A nasty chest infection is just around the corner.
So anyways when I let Esther know how I was feeling she replied with the protocol to keep me healthy and ward off any pending illness. I wanted to share this with you. Here are her instructions for for staying healthy during the cold and flu season as well as when you feel you are coming down with something.
I wanted to answer your request for more information about what I like to recommend to my patients and also the protocol I use to keep myself from getting sick during the season. To keep my immune system strong during the cold and flu season I like to take: 1. Thymus Spray by Douglas Laboratories. 1 to 2 sprays twice daily This thymus liquid extract consists of several proteins and peptides known as thymic factors that are derived from thymus tissues. The thymus is necessary for the maturation and maintenance of the immune system and works by releasing thymic factors that regulate functions of other cells in the body. These peptides are important for the healthy maturation and activation of T lymphocytes which in turn activate B-lymphocytes and macrophages contributing to a healthy immune system. 2. M/R/S Mushroom Complex (containing Shitake, Reishi, amd Maitake mushrooms) by Douglas Laboratories. 1 to 2 capsules twice daily. These mushrooms are probably one of the most important nutraceuticals you could take because of their anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-tumor and immune stimulating properties. 3. Vitamin B6 (specifically pyridoxal 5'-phosphate). Restoration of vitamin B6 status has resulted in normalization of lymphocyte proliferation and interleukin-2 production, suggesting that adequate vitamin B6 intake is important for optimal immune system function. 4. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) 2,000 IU by Thorne Research once daily. Supplementation of vitamin C has been found to improve components of the human immune system such as antimicrobial and natural killer cell activities, lymphocyte proliferation, chemotaxis, and delayed-type hypersensitivity. Vitamin C contributes to maintaining the redox integrity of cells and thereby protects them against reactive oxygen species generated during the respiratory burst and in the inflammatory response when you get sick. 4. Panax Ginseng 300 mg by Vitazan Professional. 1 capsule twice daily. Ginseng has been well known as an immune modulator. Recent studies of ginseng also emphasize the adjuvant effects of ginseng on the Th1 and Th2 immune responses as well as antibody responses. In addition to increase in lymphocyte proliferation, ginseng promotes the production of cytokines which stimulate both Th1 and Th2 immune responses.Recent studies of ginseng also emphasize the adjuvant effects of ginseng on the Th1 and Th2 immune responses as well as antibody responses. In addition to increase in lymphocyte proliferation, ginseng promotes the production of cytokines which stimulate both Th1 and Th2 immune responses. When I feel like I am getting a sniffling nose or scratchy throat then I get serious and fight back with: 1. ZInc Bisglycinate lozenges 10 mg. Chew 1 tablet every 2 hours. (Human rhinoviruses, that causes the common cold, attaches to the nasal epithelium via the intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) receptor. Ionic zinc, based on its electrical charge, also has an affinity for ICAM-1 receptor sites and may exert an antiviral effect by attaching to the ICAM-1 receptors in the rhinovirus structure and nasal epithelial cells. Further, several studies have examined the direct inhibitory effect of zinc on viruses that infect the human respiratory tract, including the enveloped virus HSV and the nonenveloped virus rhinovirus. The mechanism of inhibition of rhinovirus likely involves direct binding of zinc to virus particles. Zinc also inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), vaccinia virus, and polioviruses in vitro. 2. Rinse nasal passages daily with netti pot. 3. Increase Vitamin C to 5,000 mg daily. This should be avoided in persons with poor kidney function. Thank you Esther. Very detailed and specific. Much appreciated.
