Student Drops 50 lbs! (less than 3 hrs per wk)
Hey guys! Megan here again, which can only mean one thing… time for another spotlight on one of our clients here at Okanagan Peak Performance Inc.
How many of you have used an illness or an injury as a crutch to get yourself out of going to the gym? I know there are a few of you out there; because even I have been there in the past. Well, there is one girl I know that didn’t let anything get in the way of her weight loss. But I’ll let her take over now to you her story.
Take it away Danielle.
My name is Danielle Sambrielaz and I graduated from Immaculata Regional High School in Kelowna in 2011. I am currently at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan in my second year. -I’m only 19. I love languages and political science, and I am doing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a minor in Spanish literature. I am planning on going on an exchange to Nottingham, England in my third year. I have struggled with weight loss for a long time. I just felt that I could not lose weight! I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2008 and after my surgery I thought my weight would become normal again. That was not the case! I was diagnosed with another medical condition that prevented me from losing weight, but the problem is that losing weight can also cure it! I had tried different types of gyms around Kelowna in the past, but nothing really worked. My mom (Lia) and brother (Gio) started going to this gym called Okanagan Peak Performance Inc., and it sounded very intense. My mom asked me if I wanted to come try the gym out, because my doctor told me I had to lose weight. My first thought was no. (After all, they work with athletes and I am not fit at all!) I was so nervous for my first group fitness class. The class was really hard but Megan and Chris showed me how to do all the exercises properly right away and how to stretch afterwards. I’m really self-conscious, but that helped to boost my confidence a little bit. Then I had to get my first measurements done. That was the worst! Megan was so great about it though. She didn’t make me feel intimidated; she just supported me to change those numbers. I started coming to the classes with my mom, dad and boyfriend regularly. It made such a difference! Chris and Megan helped me come up with a nutrition plan that fit my schedule and my likes. They didn’t put me on a diet, but just helped me understand when to eat which foods. I did have to cut out some foods but it mostly was a lifestyle change. I always used to think gyms were very intimidating, and unless you were an Olympic athlete, you weren’t welcome. That isn’t the case with Okanagan Peak Performance Inc. at all! Everyone is so willing to help, and they are not intimidating, just knowledgeable. If I had to give one piece of advice to anyone wanting to lose weight it would be to make a plan. Losing weight is hard work, but it’s possible! It doesn’t matter what stage you’re at, OPP can help. Megan, Chris and everyone at OPP Inc. showed me that. Around 50 lbs later, I really have them to thank for continuing to motivate me. (Megan again)
Way to go Danielle!!! We are so proud of how far you have come, and how much determination you had to losing weight and getting healthy. It was great to be a part of your amazing transformation.
Besides the incredible weight loss, Danielle’s stamina went up, and what felt hard during her first few sessions seemed to get easier as time had passed. She went from using the 4kg kettlebell pressing overhead, to the 8kg kettlebell up and pressing it with great ease and stabilization. For anyone who has done presses with the kettlebell up will know that it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Danielle is a great example for people that anything is possible even when the odds are stacked against you.
Do you face similar challenges to Danielle? Have you tried other gyms but haven't yet realized your goal? Would you like to experience the same type of training and use the same meal plans Danielle did to lose over 50 lbs?
If so then stop in to Okanagan Peak Performance Inc. today to learn more and take control of your health.
