Hi Peak Performer!
We're one week from the opening of the Tokyo Olympics.
What do you think about that?
There are a variety of opinions on this. Some huge supporters of sport are not sure the Games should go ahead.
They cite the state of emergency in Japan and the fact that many countries are still recovering from the pandemic.
And I get that.
At the same time I want the athletes to be able to compete. When you're an Olympian your whole life becomes sport. And you prepare for an opportunity every four years, and then wait an extra year in this case.
So I'm looking forward to the Olympics not only for the athletes but for the rest of us as well.
For those two weeks there will be a number of interesting stories that will be told.
Fourteen year old swimmer Summer McIntosh will be making her Olympic debut. Brent Hayden has come out of retirement at 37 years old to go for a medal in swimming. Malindi Elmore is going to her second Olympics, 17 years apart, in a different event.
There will be these and many more stories to come from the Olympics. And these stories will bring us together, inspire and make us proud.
And hopefully this will ignite a little fire in each of us to do and be a little better.
Other news to share...
1. Olympic Watch Party
If you were an OPP member prior to the pandemic you'll remember the dinner parties we've hosted in the past. We would have upwards of 90 of us gather for some food, drink and a few laughs.
Are you ready for another one of these?
On August 7th we're planning to have an Olympic viewing party. This a Saturday when Malindi will be competing in the marathon around 3 pm. (time to be confirmed)
We'll have a sign up sheet at the gym if you'd like to come so we can order enough food and drink.
2. Missing a Water Bottle?
We've got a collection of water bottles at the gym that we'll recycle soon. Take a look to see if any are yours.
3. New Blog Posts Coming
Here are a few topics coming up on the blog:
What no one ever states this as their goal.
I've been working in this industry for over 20 years. And I'll meet with 5-10 people per week to discuss training, goals and how we might be able to help. This means over the years I'm sat down with with 5,000-10,000 people for a Strategy Session.
In all that time no one has ever given this as the goal for their training. And it might be the most important thing to succeed. Can you guess what it is?
Lessons from testing.
This week a number of our athletes went through some testing. And there were a lot of lessons learned.
And success leaves clues. Stay tuned for a post on what you can learn from testing and how this can help you achieve a better result.
That's all for now.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
